Billboard published its end of 2009 and end the decade charts today. I hope the magazine hits stands soon--sometimes its hard to find, but I always buy the year-end issue.
Keeping in mind that the "chart year" goes from the end of November 2008 to the end of November 2009, it's not too much of a surprise that the #1 single of 2009 is the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" rather than "I Gotta Feeling," although the latter, which has continued to chart through the end of the chart year, appears higher on the end-of-decade chart (I guess that goes all the way to the December 19 chart).
Pop music really ruled 2009, as shown by the fact that 7 of the top 10 pop songs were also among the top 10 overall songs on the Hot 100.

Mariah Carey rules the decade end chart with "We Belong Together," the #1 song of 2005 and one of two #1 hits (along with "I Gotta Feeling") that spend 14 weeks at #1 this decade. She's the only artist on the list who also had one of the 10 biggest hits of the '90s--"One Sweet Day" with Boyz II Men, which spent 16 weeks at #1, was the 4th biggest hit of the '90s (according to the book Billboard's Hottest Hot 100 Hits).

It's weighted quite a bit toward the latter half of the decade, with only "How You Remind Me" and "Yeah!" coming from the decade's first half. Songs that topped Billboard's year-end charts ended up in the following positions:

Apart from the Heartless, all of the Top 10 of 09 (Kris Allen's version is more digestable) is my kinda jam. Gaga LOVE! This is a good good year :) Now I am just waiting for Gaga to top the Hot 100 and it will be perfect :)
wow it was a good year for pop :) I'm happy that Love Story and I'm Yours did so well too, even if i am ready to throw something through the window each time they come on British radio now :P (Which is still shockingly often!)
Sorry for the randomness, but remember when Britney debut at #1 with "3" in its first week and we both saw the "incorrect" Billboard saying that the last artist to do this was Lauryn Hill when in fact it was techinically Celine Dion and R Kelly, well they were right because you know in 1998 Billboard finally allowed singles without physical releases to chart well apparently the week before the week where they applied the rule, Celine Dion and R. Kelly was a #46 moving to #1 the following week when the rule was applied. So techincally they didn't exactly debut at #1.
rcLoy - Did Kris Allen really make a better version of Heartless? Really? I'm quite skeptical, as I think Kanye West's version is just fine the way it is. GaGa may just yet top the Hot 100, although it probably will be Ke$ha first.
Paul - I've come around the Love Story after becoming a Taylor Swift convert (I may even become a Team Jacob convert after seeing New Moon).
J.Mensah - Yeah, I read all that the week after we discussed it. Forgot about that change.
I want to throw MYSELF through a window every time I hear "How You Remind Me." "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Leavin'" remain two of my top guilty pleasures.
