Best of 2000s: Beyonce - I Am...Sasha Fierce (4.5/5)

Before I Am...Sasha Fierce, Beyonce was a better singles artist than an albums one. Dangerously in Love delivered several great uptempo hits, but was dominated by droopy balladry. Ironically, the gritter and more upbeat follow-up, B'Day, gave us the singer's biggest ballad hit "Irreplaceable," but otherwise focused too much energy on its beat and not the hooks. She gets it right though on this third outing, which has some of the singer's best slow songs to date--her voice having matured to match the material. Thus she manages as effectively through Ryan Tedder's epic "Halo" as she does on the tender "Ave Maria." The faster material works great too, going for an electro dance-pop groove that delivered the iconic video "Single Ladies," as well as later single "Sweet Dreams."

Best: Single Ladies, Halo, Ave Maria, If I Were a Boy, Broken-Hearted Girl, Sweet Dreams, Disappear
