Best of 2000s: Muse - Black Holes and Revelations (5/5)

Muse's fourth album pushed the band out of Radiohead's shadow and into the limelight with its epic sound, a blend of pop, rock, and electronic elements. With lyrical content ranging from your typical love song to your atypical alien invasion, the album's content is as broad as its sound, which ranges from conventional songs like "Starlight" to the gothic, 6-minute "Knights of Cydonia." Other highlights include sexy, strutting "Supermassive Black Hole," Depeche Mode-ish "Map of the Problematique," strange but gorgeous "Invincible," and Western-influenced "Hoodoo." The best album yet from a band that continues to surprise and amaze.

Best: Map of the Problematique, Supermassive Black Hole, Invincible, Starlight, Knights of Cydonia, Take a Bow, Hoodoo
