Microsoft and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Act Against Sony

CNN.com is reporting that Microsoft, in response to the security threat created by Sony BMG's copy-protection software, is taking action to protect its customers by upgrading its anti-spyware software to identify and remove the Sony program. Sony BMG's copy-protection program, XCP, which is bundled on recent CD titles acts as spyware and can make home computer systems vulnerable hackers.

A representative of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security also warned music companies from crossing the line from protecting their intellectual property to undermining home computer system security.
