This and That

I was surprised to see Will Young's "Leave Right Now" show up in the featured new releases on iTunes this morning. Turns out the 2003 single was chosen as the exit music for this season's American Idol. Last year's exit song, Carrie Underwood's remake of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home," peaked at #21 on the Hot 100.

Estelle's new single is out. "Freak," featuring Kardinal Offishall, is a pretty minimalist affair, mostly just Estelle rapping over beats with no tune. At some points the song interpolates Soul II Soul's 1989 hit "Back to Life." Here's the video:

oh wouldn't it be nice if awareness of Will picked up because of American Idol. there's a symmetry there isn't there?

Yes, that would be cool. He actually appeared on the show during its first season.

Ah, Leave Right Now is ACE!! At least there are something interesting about this season AI, great song choice! :)
BTW how you lovin' that Estelle track? I can't seem to get into as much as American Boy. Hmm :S

It's okay. There's not much of a melody.

"Freak" is the jam right now, but I always feel dirty about liking it. It's as if Guetta wrote the song for Fergie while working with the BEPs, but she decided she's beyond that type of thing, so he got Estelle to blaze on it instead. And pleased that Will gets any airplay in the US, although it's not really setting any sales charts on fire.

I only listened to it the one time, so maybe it will grow on me.
